Half-Drawn

Suddenly, she was gone.
Shutters hung half-drawn; the light stayed off at half past six.
She must have slipped away without a sound, leaving only a measured emptiness.

We, early birds draped in dressing gowns like borrowed plumage, felt wingless — strangers to the mirrored rhythm of each other’s morning.

Alone, I found myself in the first blackness of coffee.
My shape lingered in the fleece blanket, reluctant to leave.
Memories slid through the room, tentative and insistent, like morning light, hesitant and lost, unsure where it now belongs.
